Preoperative Considerations
Armamentarium:
- Thermoplastic splint
- Hot water bath
- Heavy scissor
- Mastisol
- Steri Strips
Technique
- Steri-strips are applied to the nasal dorsum to provide a non-oily surface for adhesion of thermoplastic splint
- Thermoplastic nasal splint with adhesive backing
- Splint is sized against patient's nose and trimmed as needed
- Splint is then placed in hot water
- Splint is ready for application once it turns from opaque to clear
- Paper backing is removed from adhesive side of splint and it is placed over steri-strips onto patient's nose
- Splint is gently formed to the shape of the patient's nose
- Room temperature water can be applied to the splint until it once again turns opaque, setting it in the desired shape

- Avoid manipulation during anesthesia emergence
