Preoperative Considerations

Consent:

  • None

Anesthesia/Positioning:

  • None

Other:

  • None

Armamentarium:

  • Thermoplastic splint
  • Hot water bath
  • Heavy scissor
  • Mastisol
  • Steri Strips

Technique

  • Steri-strips are applied to the nasal dorsum to provide a non-oily surface for adhesion of thermoplastic splint
  • Thermoplastic nasal splint with adhesive backing
  • Splint is sized against patient's nose and trimmed as needed
  • Splint is then placed in hot water
  • Splint is ready for application once it turns from opaque to clear
  • Paper backing is removed from adhesive side of splint and it is placed over steri-strips onto patient's nose
  • Splint is gently formed to the shape of the patient's nose
  • Room temperature water can be applied to the splint until it once again turns opaque, setting it in the desired shape

Postoperative Considerations

Immediate:

  • Avoid manipulation during anesthesia emergence

Follow Up:

  • Remove in 1 week
