Preoperative Considerations
Armamentarium:
- 4x4 tape
- Blue towel
- Tegederms vs corneal shields
- Mastisol
- Curved hemostat (if using corneal shields)
- Ophthalmic solution
- Opthalmic lubricant (if using corneal shields)
Technique
Place ophthalmic solutionUse a curved hemostat to gently rotate corneal shield into placeApply mastisol to nose and nasal tube Apply surical tape to nasal dorsal and wrap around nasal tube being aware of nasal tube depthEnsure there is no excess pressure on the nose so as to avoid the risk of alar necrosis Wrap blue towel around head and place surgical tape half on skin and half on blue towelUse the center of the head pillow (donut) and cut in half to use as a rest for the anesthesia tube and to avoid excess pressure on the alaApply surgical tape mastoid to mastoid. Tuck surgical tape behind ear after applying Wrap balloon around nasal tube and tape to head wrap far away from surgical site
